Yup! It has already begun. You hear many parents say “all I am is a taxi for my kids.” or "I live in the car". It’s true. However, you usually hear it from parents of preteens. But what they don’t tell you is it actually starts at a much younger age. For me, it was while they were still in utero. 😊 I was considered high-risk since I was pregnant with multiples. I then had a shloo of other things occur while I was pregnant that caused them to keep a closer eye on babies. I was going to doctor/ultrasound appointments twice a week. The babies had more pictures than I knew what to do with before they were even born. After they were born, things calmed down for a few months when it came to traveling. We were in the NICU so they had no place to go. However, as soon as they blew that popsicle stand, we were on our way to doctor appointments. Multiple kids equal multiple appointments. It was a crazy amount, but you do what you have to do for your children. They were not fun places to go, but that was our social life.
Fast forward to now and they are in speech, preschool and dance. I feel I am always loading them up and lugging them around. How?? How can they already be such big kids? In my mind, they are still my tiny humans. I am not ready for them to start growing up. I know…I have to face the truth, they ARE going to grow up. So, I am driving them around while embracing every moment. Every time they run out of preschool and give me a hug my heart overflows with joy. Every time they are in dance and kick the wall while shuffling or they twirl and fall to the ground, I think of where they were and a tear runs down my cheek. I smile every week when they come running out of speech yelling "mommy" to show me what they learned. I have had many proud moments as a mother.
I know they are growing up, but it truly didn’t hit me until we received the order forms for school pictures. That is when my breaks started to squeal. I have 3 kids in school. What happened? Next thing you know I will be writing a blog about graduation. Anywho, we ordered the pictures and then waited and waited for what seemed like forever for them to arrive. I know I am biased, but let me just say, they are pretty stinkin’ cute!!! Just take a look for yourself.
There are times I feel like all I do is watch my gas gauge race to E. I have moments where I think I should put a light-up sign on the roof of my car that says "taxi mom". There are times when I see a school bus and think the bus driver and I have the same occupation. At the end of the day, I wouldn't change it for anything. Life is short and every moment is precious. So enjoy those taxi mom days. Pack snacks for yourself, stay hydrated and live life to the fullest because we only get one shot.
